We do enjoy a National Health Service that is the absolute envy of much of the world. That is a fact that is not under dispute here. However, as the costs of running this massive organisation (one of the largest employers in the entire world) continues to increase, decisions are being made more and more to take access to certain types of medication and treatments away.
This is why people are turning to the possibility of private medical insurance as a viable and more secure alternative. But even then, could they definitely say that they would be entitled to every single form of treatment, even on a private policy?
Just a couple of decades ago, it is a fact that private medical insurance was the reserve of the middle classes and above. Today though, even the working classes are considering this possibility. Who says that private health care should not be available to all? and this must be one of the most fundamental reasons why there is an increasing take-up in this demographic.
There will never be the perfect health plan. Private health insurance is exactly what the system is already in countries such as The USA, and this does not work at all well for the people that cannot afford premiums. It is a fact that people with more money to spend enjoy a better standard of care in this country and this is how things are done in most other countries around the world.
Whilst we do not wish to return to the old way of doing things, if there was a realistic curb put on pharmaceutical companies, they would be prevented from charging such criminally extortionate rates and there would be no need for the withdrawal of certain types of health care.
