While not nearly as popular as in the US, plastic surgery procedures have been on the rise for more than a decade in the UK. Last year, there were more than 36 thousand elective operations. In this article we will discuss a few of the most common plastic surgery risks. We have all heard the horror stories about plastic surgery going wrong. But the truth is that those cases are few and far between. And since most surgeons only perform a handful of popular procedures, serious complications are extremely rare. Still, there are a few fairly common side effects. Breast augmentation is the most popular plastic surgery procedure. In 2009, a full quarter of all surgeries were performed on women who wanted to increase their bust size. London Plastic Surgery completes hundreds of breast enlargements each year. Although it is the most common procedure, it is also the one with the most side effects. Anywhere from ten to fifty percent of women complain about numbness or loss of sensitivity in the nipple after surgery. On occasion, the numbness will diminish over time and the nipple will regain full sensation. But more often than not, the loss of at least some sensation is permanent. The most serious risk of plastic surgery is of course death. Like any surgery, a local anesthetic will be used and if the levels are too high, it may cause respiratory failure. But as we said, this is extremely rare. Most plastic surgeons complete tens of thousands of procedures over twenty or thirty year careers without losing a patient on the table.
