As the NHS continues to be restrictive over the types of care it is prepared to pay for, most citizens of the UK are becoming worried over what they can expect from this health service in the future. There are already scary stories emerging of how local health authorities are downright refusing to pay for certain types of cancer drugs - as they are viewed as too expensive and it is a fact that this situation will only ever get worse.
Then there is the worry over long term care there is no way you could ever expect to receive very long-term health care indefinitely through the NHS and even if this were a possibility - the service received would not be that much cop.
There are plenty of people that feel that citizens are going to turn to alternative healthcare systems in the future. The NHS may well become an institution that is only there for basic healthcare needs: perhaps consultations with your GP will remain and other simple surgical procedures, but there is a lot of doubt over all aspects of healthcare remaining under the classification of free.
Of course, though, the UK does not enjoy a free health service as governments try to assert. We pay National Insurance contributions that are continually rising. Perhaps it is time to drastically cut this extra income tax and allow people to decide on the type of healthcare they would prefer.
