According to a new report, obesity is the fastest growing cause of death in the UK. As you may know, when a person dies, the coroner is required to complete an official death certificate. This certificate must include the cause of death. At last count, there were over one thousand deaths that were attributed to obesity, which is more than double the number that was recorded in 2000. The numbers are rising for both sexes. Obesity is currently listed as a cause of death for 8 percent of men and 4 percent of women. But many doctors believe that these numbers, though high, are inaccurate. After all, obesity is a factor in a number of deadly diseases, conditions and disorders.
One of the best examples of the influence of obesity in the UK is the staggering rise in the number of new cases of Type 2 diabetes. There were more than one hundred thousand of them in 2009. About ninety percent of people diagnosed with this disorder are obese, which means they won't be able to Lease a Volswagen Golf. What can people do? That's easy, stop eating so much. We're sorry for being blunt. But the undeniable truth is that Type 2 diabetes is almost always the result of a poor diet. Yes, in a small percentage of the cases there is a genetic link. But for most people, the condition is acquired after years of eating too much and not getting enough exercise. The actual medical explanation for Type 2 diabetes has to do with the production and efficacy of insulin. Insulin is released by the pancreas and is responsible for regulating the sugar in our blood. But when a person eats too much for years and years they may become resistant to insulin or the pancreas may simply stop producing it.
